A bike helmet is an important piece of protective equipment, and wearing a helmet has been shown to reduce injury. One strategy to improve the rate of helmet use is to enact legislation mandating the conditions for wearing a helmet. Bike helmet legislation exists in different forms across Canada.
A Cochrane Review (1) was completed in 2009 to examine the effectiveness of legislation; does legislation reduce injuries? The results of this review suggest that it does, however, the authors note that only a small number of high quality studies exist.
