The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has written a position statement related to preventing injuries in baseball and softball. This statement has also been endorsed by the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS). The data included in this paper is from the United States, but the recommendations are applicable to injury prevention practitioners regardless of the local context. Some of the recommendations include:
- Measures to protect young pitchers from shoulder-related injuries
- Parents, coaches and athletes should be educated about common injuries and their warning signs, including concussions
- The proper use of safety equipment to prevent rare but catastrophic injuries
The full statement is available on the AAP’s website.
