Position statement: preventing playground injuries

The Canadian Paediatric Society’s (CPS) position statement on preventing playground injuries describes the types and locations of injuries most common in Canada, and discusses prevention strategies to reduce these injuries. The recommendations are centred around a guide written by the Canadian Standards Association, and include:

  • Reducing the height of equipment
  • Reducing the risk of falling from equipment
  • Improving the protective surfacing under the equipment
  • Active supervision
  • Increasing access to more natural play spaces

The full position statement can be found on the CPS website.
